Biography - BENJAMIN W. GERE
Benjamin W. Gere, a talented young lawyer of Arcola,
with brilliant prospects in the legal profession, was admitted to practice
in the courts of Illinois in February, 1897, after having read law in the
office of Barrick & Cofer, of Arcola.
Mr. Gere was born January 23, 1871, at Bourbon, and is a son of Warren B.
and Jennie (Thompson) Gere. His father has been engaged in the grain
business all his life and is one of Arcola's highly respected citizens.
Mr. Gere, in partnership with Mr. Albert Snyder, act as agents for fifteen
of the leading fire insurance companies of the country. He has served Arcola
most efficiently as city attorney. In the recent race for county attorney
Mr. Gere was a candidate and had many friends throughout the county, but the
conditions were such that would force the nomination of Mr. Chadwick, so Mr.
Gere withdrew; by doing so it will no doubt increase his chances four years
hence. He owns probably the second largest law library in the county, and is
rapidly forging to the front in his profession. In political opinion he is a
stanch Republican and takes an active interest in his party's success.
